Bike Month 2017

Bike Month is back and it's better than ever! We're excited to begin a month full of activities to celebrate the bicycle and get our community moving! We kick off with the Columbike Demo Ride (May 2nd) and finish with the Wednesday Night Road Bikers group ride (May 31st), and there's a lot of fun for everyone in between! Some key dates to remember: Bike to School Day is May 10th, Handlebar Happy Hour is May 11th and Bike to Work with the Mayor Day and Cummins Bike to Work Day are on May 19th.

Tuesday, May 2nd - COLUMBIKE DEMO RIDE
Try out a Columbike for free! Riders will be available to take you on a short loop through Mill Race Park. Some helmets will be available to borrow. 11am-1pm beside The Commons on 4th Street (outside Puccini's)
Friday, May 5th - FULL MOON BIKE RIDE
Come ride your bike guided by the light of a full moon. Meet at sunset (8:45pm) at 4th & Washington Streets. Bike lights and helmets required.
Saturday, May 6th - COLUMBUS BMX SEASON OPENING RACE
CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER! Event rescheduled for Saturday, May 13th. See below for details.
Tuesday, May 9th - LATINO NIGHT @ BIKE CO-OP
Our volunteers speak Spanish and are available to help you from 5:30-7:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month.

Saturday, May 13th – PUBLIC ART BIKE RIDE
Landmark Columbus' fun ride will explore some of Columbus’ public art. This casual, social ride is open to everyone. Ride your own bike or a Columbike. Meet at the Library Plaza at 1:00pm.
Saturday, May 13th - COLUMBUS BMX SEASON OPENING RACE
Join Columbus BMX as they kick off their 15th season of family fun and racing excitement! All ages and skill levels are welcome! Rescheduled from Saturday, May 6th due to the weather,
FREE loaner bikes, Strider bikes and helmets are available for new riders.
- Registration & Practice 5:30-7:00pm, Racing ASAP
- $5 Strider, $10 class or cruiser, $15 both

Monday, May 15th - PEOPLE TRAIL CLEAN-UP (North side)
Meet on the People Trail just north of 25th Street (near SR 31) to clean up the trail between 25th and Rocky Ford from 5:30-7pm. Bring gloves.
Tuesday, May 16th - BIKE TO THE BREWERY
Join Columbus Women’s Ride on a trip to 450 North for a tour and tasting. Everyone welcome – not just ladies! 21 & over for tour & tasting. Departs from Hamilton Center at 6pm.
Thursday, May 18th - PEOPLE TRAIL CLEAN-UP (Downtown)
Friday, May 19th - BIKE TO WORK DAY
Join Mayor Lienhoop and Cummins leaders as they commute to work by bike! Groups will be meeting at various locations to ride downtown. There will be lead riders at all locations to provide route information. All locations will leave at 7:15am, so please arrive early. The ride will end at the Cummins Irwin Conference Center Plaza, on 5th Street in downtown Columbus, for a celebration and light breakfast. Saturday, May 20th – TOUR DE TRAILS BICYCLE CHALLENGE
Participate in the 20k, 50k or 80k rides starting on 5th Street. A great way to support Columbus Park Foundation. Rolling start from 9-10am.
Monday, May 22nd - BIKE THEMED WINE & CANVAS - ART WITH A TWIST FUNDRAISER

Tuesday, May 23rd – GREEN DRINKS
Join Energy Matters Community Coalition for Green Drinks from 6-8pm at Upland’s Pump House. Come hear Bill Hawkins from Strand Associates talk about the newest (and much needed!) 25th Street People Trail connection that is beginning construction this summer! He will also be discussing the repurposing the Newbern Bridge, which is part of this project. Come learn about the route of the new trail, the design challenges that had to be overcome, and how the historic bridge is being repurposed. FREE appetizers will be provided!
Friday, May 26th – FIXED GEAR FRIDAY
Go for a leisurely group ride through some of Columbus’ wonderful parks, then meet up downtown. Departs from The Bicycle Station at 6:15pm.

Wednesday, May 31st - WEDNESDAY NIGHT DOWNTOWN ROAD BIKERS RIDE
Join the Wednesday Night Downtown Road Bikers for a fun 10 or 25 mile bike ride starting at Upland at 6pm. Routes marked. All skills levels (and types of bikes) welcomed.
