Welcome, WALKtober 2017!
Put your walking shoes on, WALKtober is finally here! Walking Month, also called Walktober, is a month-long campaign to inspire our community to walk more and become healthier. This year, there are plenty of opportunities to explore art, and involve children in your walks! Look out for #WALKtober way finding signage all around downtown Columbus! We have doubled the number of signs this year and hope you will have fun exploring.

Sunday, October 1st
WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S
Walk to help raise awareness and funds about Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Registration opens at noon at the Mill Race Center.
Tuesday, October 3rd
NATURE WALK
Join Landscape Architect Art Hopkins for a free, guided nature walk through Mill Race Park. Meet near the basketball courts. Walk starts at 5:30pm
They’re kicking off the #drinkingaboutdesign's October lineup on a new day (Tuesday!) with an exclusive walking tour of the exhibition. Meet at the Conversation Plinth on the Library Plaza at 5 pm. They’ll get started around 5:15 pm as Exhibit Columbus team members lead the group through a free walking tour where you’ll hear insider insight and stories behind the installations.
#drinkingaboutdesign is a weekly meetup created to engage the community and connect fans of good design with some of the people who make Exhibit Columbus happen.
Wednesday, October 4th
WALK TO SCHOOL DAY
Information will be sent through the participating schools to the students. If you live too far from school, consider parking and walking.
Friday, October 6th
Meet at Columbus Gynecology (2326 18th St) at 12:00pm for a half hour walk with Dr. Helen Kinsey. Enjoy a walk on the People Trails and the opportunity to ask the doctor your medical / health questions in an informal setting. Contact Cheryl Wright for more info: cheryldwright@gmail.com
Monday, October 9th
Learn how to add strength and stretching techniques to enhance your walk. Beginning on the People Trail near 18th St, this walk will focus on walking to add muscle endurance. Contact sholtkamp@crh.org for more information.
Monday, October 9th - 13th
Stop by Mill Race Center Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm to pick up your map and clues for this self-guided, interactive, intergenerational art walk featuring the art of David Zinn, from October 9th - 13th. For more information, contact Beth Parkhurst at beth@millracecenter.org or call 812-376-9241.
Wednesday, October 11th
EXHIBIT COLUMBUS WALKING TOUR – LUNCH & LEARN
Go to WellConnect to hear Richard McCoy, Director of Landmark Columbus, discuss the work of Landmark and the wonderful new Exhibit Columbus. This free seminar will include a short walk downtown to view and discuss public artwork, so don't forget your walking shoes! Registration required. 12pm
Thursday, October 12th

Saturday, October 14th
Join us for the 17th Annual Buddy walk, in celebration of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, to raise awareness of this common genetic condition. Registration starts at 10:30am at Donner Park – walk starts at noon.
FAMILY DAY: EXPLORER CHALLENGE
Jump start your Exhibit Columbus Explorer Challenge on Oct 14th at the Cleo Rogers Memorial Library! Join in on the fun from 2-4pm to begin the first challenge: design, create, and share your inspired artwork! They will bring art supplies and ideas. You bring your creativity. Then grab the free Activity Guide and complete the challenge to earn your official Exhibit Columbus Explorer button!

Join Darryl A. Tannenbaum, MD, board certified orthopedic surgeon, for lunch at WellConnect as he discusses the latest research on pain management, surgery and getting the best outcomes for returning to an active lifestyle. Registration required. 12pm
