WALKtober is for kids, too!

With this cool, Fall weather, WALKtober (Walking Month) is the perfect time to get outside - for people of all ages. Thankfully, this WALKtober, there are plenty of opportunities for you to walk around Columbus with your children!

Here are just a few events and activities to help you stay active with your kids:

Become an Exhibit Columbus Explorer

Download the Exhibit Columbus Activity Guide or pick one up at KidsCommons or the Visitor's Center. Explore the exhibition, answer the questions in the guide and bring it to one of five locations to get your official Exhibit Columbus Explorer Button!

For adults and older children, a walking tour is available through the Visitor's Center. Download the free app Hear/Here in the iTunes store to enjoy a special audio experience of the exhibition.

Come Out and Play! at CSA Lincoln's Linden Project

Bring your family and friends to enjoy fun, free activities and see how the Linden Project plans to transform their site at CSA Lincoln into a unique community play area and gathering space! Food will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to The Linden Project. Be sure to bring your bike and helmet to participate in CRH Healthy Communities' Bike Rodeo. This community play date will be held at CSA Lincoln (750 5th Street) on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 12-2pm.

Try out the David Zinn Art Walk

Go to Mill Race Center or the Visitor's Center to pick up your search-and-find guide for this intergenerational, interactive art walk. You may also download and print the guide at home. Find all the cute cartoon characters created by the wonderful David Zinn, which are located all around downtown. Can you find all eight?

Take a walk with the Stroll Patrol

If you're available during the day and have small children, then Stroll Patrol may be a great group for you to join in! Organized by the MOMS Club of Columbus, Indiana, the Stroll Patrol meets biweekly for a walk with strollers around a local park or FairOaks Mall. Meet them on Monday, October 23rd at Clifty Park (by the playground) at 11am (for the Facebook event, click here) . MOMS Club is geared towards stay-at-home mothers, but fathers and other caregivers are also able to join. This event is free and open to members of the public who want to go for a walk with their kids.

Dash O'Lantern 5k Run/Walk

Join in the fun on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Mill Race Park for the Dash'O'Lantern Halloween Costume 5K Run/Walk, supporting the non-profit organization, Advocates for Children. All proceeds from this race will go towards supporting Advocates in their ongoing efforts to provide Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for abused and neglected children within the Bartholomew, Decatur, and Jennings counties. With your help they will be able to spread #thepowerfulvoice of the CASA movement and provide hope to the 250 children that still await to have a CASA stand behind them. This is a family and stroller friendly event. Participants are encouraged to come and show off their best Halloween costumes!
