FFY starts Ladies-Only swimming sessions

Foundation for Youth (FFY) seeks to "inspire and enable our youth (and) our community". A recent addition to their aquatics schedule has enabled some women with an opportunity to swim that previously did not exist in our community: they recently introduced a ladies-only swimming session. On Saturdays from 1:30-3:30pm, the pool is staffed by a female lifeguard, and only women, girls and little boys (6 and under) are allowed into the pool area.

For some women, this is a very important change, because they can't or prefer not to swim in the presence of men - either for religious or personal reasons. For Muslim women who can't swim in co-ed pools for religious reasons, this adds swimming to the list of exercises that are accessible to them. This change will help some members of our community learn how to swim and/or use the pool for exercise and recreation.

They ran a pilot of the ladies-only swimming sessions in early 2018 and there was enough interest that they decided to add it to the aquatics schedule. It's great that the Aquatics program at Foundation for Youth has been able to hold ladies-only sessions to make swimming more accessible to women in our community.
