Get WalkIN again this Fall

The Get WalkIN program is being offered again this Fall to help motivate our community to become more active. This free, e-mail based walking program offered by Purdue Extension involves weekly and biweekly e-mails (16 in total). According to the 2017 Purdue Extension Annual Report, "(p)articipants can easily sign up, walk on their own, and receive emailed support and information on health benefits, goal-setting, social support, and overcoming barriers to walking". This 12 week program has already had great results: in 2016, over the course of the program, the percentage of participants who were considered sufficiently active increased by over a third - from 48% to 82%!

If you've been thinking of becoming more active, walking is a great way to begin. The American Heart Association points out that, of all the ways to get active, walking has the lowest dropout rate and is the "simplest positive change you can make to improve your heart health". With all of the local walking activities that will take place throughout October as part of Walking Month (WALKtober) there will also be plenty of opportunities for you to connect with groups and get ideas for new walking routes.

Get WalkIN starts on September 24th, and the registration deadline is September 21st. Sign up by using Eventbrite or by contacting Harriet Armstrong, Purdue Extension Educator, at armstrh@purdue.edu. Click on the poster below to open it in a printable format - and please share it with your friends and family.
